NV Band and Orchestra - Musician of the Week

2011-12 Musician of the Week:

   
Senior Bridget Thomas is the Northview Musician of the Week. Bridget plays cello in the Chamber Orchestra, and has been a member of the Pit Orchestra in NV musicals for the past 3 years. She has also played in the Toledo youth Orchestra and participated in OMEA Solo and Ensemble. In addition to her musical activities, Bridget is active in National Honor Society, and is co-editor –in-chief of the student prints. After graduation, Bridget plans to attend the Ohio State University. A private student of Damon Coleman, Bridget is the daughter of Jerry and Renee Thomas. 
Senior Travis Bihn is Northview's musician of the week. Travis currently sings bass in Harmony Road Show and A Cappella Choir, and has served as a choir officer for three years. He is involved in Cat's Meow, is the President of National Honors Society, President of Drama Club, and has earned key roles in musicals and plays throughout high school. Next year Travis plans to major in chemistry, and go into Pre-Med for cardiology. He also serves as a youth leader in SCAT(Sylvania Community Action Team). Travis is the son of Katherine and Steven Bihn.

Senior Annie Babcock is the Northview Musician of the Week. She sings in Harmony Road Show and A Cappella Choir where she serves as choir secretary and soprano section leader. Annie is also involved with Young Life, works at Nautica Coffee, and was this years Homecoming Queen. An honors student, Annie is also a member of LINK, SWAT team, and National Honor Society. She plans to pursue a career in social work and hopes to attend the University of Toledo. Annie is the daughter of Steve Babcock and Kathy Carlson.

Jennifer Deng is the Northview Musician of the week. Jennifer is a senior violinist and President of the Northview Orchestras. In her eight years of playing the violin, she has participated in the Toledo International Youth Orchestra and Toledo Youth Orchestra. Jennifer has received the top rating at OMEA Solo & Ensemble adjudicated event five years is a row. Additionally, she gives private violin lessons to a younger student. Jennifer is also a senior varsity member of the Debate Team and an Editor-in-Chief of The Student Prints newspaper. Furthermore, she participates in LINK crew, Math Club and National Honor Society. She is a National Merit Semi-Finalist and an AP Scholar with Honor. Jennifer is the daughter of Liwei and Xunming Deng

Senior Josh McAfee is the Northview Musician of the Week. He sings in Harmony Road Show and A Cappella Choir and has also sung in Northivew's Symphonic Choir. An avid musician, Josh is also a member of the Northview Wind ensemble, Jazz Band, and Marching Wildcats, and plays bass in the local band The Farther I Fall. He plans to pursue a career in music and hopes to attend Bowling Green State University in the fall. Josh is the son of John and Jenny McAfee.

Senior TJ McCready is the Northview Musician of the Week.  He sings in Harmony Road Show and A Cappella Choir where he serves as choir president and bass section leader.  TJ has also served as vice president of Symphonic Choir.  An honors student, TJ is also a member of the Northview Track Team, National Honor Society, and the praise band at his church. He plans to pursue a career in architecture and hopes to attend Miami University or the University of Cincinnati.  TJ is the son of Jill and Tim McCready.

Senior Elizabeth Barga is the Northview High School Musician of the Week. Elizabeth is the trumpet section leader in the Northview Marching Band, and plays  in the Northview Wind Ensemble.  She is the Head Quartermaster and is extremely efficient in taking care and organizing our band uniforms.  Elizabeth is caring and thoughtful to all members of the band.  Her positive attitude and leadership ability has definitely been an asset to our music programs at Northview.  In addition to her musical activities, Elizabeth was a member of the Tennis team for three years.  She is active in German Club and has taken horseback riding lessons for the last seven years.  Elizabeth is an excellent student.  She is at the top of her class and is a member of the National Honor Society.  Elizabeth is also a National Merit Semifinalist.  Elizabeth is the daughter of Dan and Marianne Barga.

The Northview musician of the week is senior Kelsey Pomeroy.  Kelsey plays violin  in the Chamber Orchestra, and is also a member of the Toledo Youth Orchestra.  Kelsey is a member of Pit Orchestra for the NV musical, ‘The Wizard of Oz.’  In addition to her musical activities, Kelsey is active in National Honor Society, is a member of the newspaper staff, and is a National Merit Commended Scholar.  After graduation, Kelsey plans to major in French.  A private student of Megan Fitzpatrick, Kelsey is the daughter of Donna and Brent Pomeroy.

Seniors Becca Berland and Mackenzie Bihn are the Northview High School
Co-Musicians of the Week. Both Becca and Mackenzie are four year twirlers in the Wildcat Marching Band.  With their impeccable twirling skills and leadership ability, they ably lead our wonderful majorette squad.  Both girls are long time members of the Sylvania Twirling Stars and have performed at Internationals.  Becca is the business editor for the Northview yearbook, and is the secretary of National Honor Society. Mackenzie is a four year member of the Northview Dance Team and is the team captain.   Becca is the daughter of David and Bonnie Berland and Mackenzie is the daughter of Ray and Diane Bihn.

Senior Blayne Weddington is the Northview High School Musician of the Week. Blayne is principal clarinetist in the Northview Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra as well as the Wildcat Marching Band.  She is the Band President and has displayed outstanding leadership in helping the band prepare for the upcoming marching season.  She was a member of the Ohio University All-State Honor Band and the Ohio Music Education Association District I Honor Band.  Blayne is also a member and vice-president of the Northview ACappella Choir and Harmony Road Show.  She has also been very active in the Northview Drama department and has been in the cast of several plays and musicals.  Blayne is also a Northview cheerleader.  Her positive attitude and leadership ability has definitely been an asset to our music programs at Northview.  Blayne is an excellent student and is a member of National Honor Society.  Blayne is the daughter of Pete and Kelley Weddington.

2010-11 Musician of the Week:

Brad Rymers is the Northview High School Musician of the Week.  Brad is the center snare drum player in the drum-line of the Northview Wildcat Marching Band.  He is also a percussionist in the Northview Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Jazz Band.  Brad has been a member of the Toledo Youth Orchestra for several years.  Brad has also been a member the University of Toledo Honor Band. Brad plans on attending the University of Toledo and major in engineering. Brad is the son of Rick and Jenny Rymers.

Laura Denyer and Julia Hage are the Northview High School Co-Musicians of the Week.  Laura and Julia are the student field commanders for the Wildcat Marching Band.  Both young ladies attended the George M. Parks Drum Major Academy where they refined their excellent leadership skills.Laura plays flute in the Northview Wind Ensemble and she is also a member of the Northview A Cappella Choir.  She is a homeroom leader and is a part of Drama Club.  Laura is an excellent student and is a member of the National Honor Society.  Laura is the daughter of Don and Joanne Denyer.Julia plays flute and piccolo in the Northview Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Orchestra.  She is principal flute/piccolo in the Toledo Youth Orchestra.  Julia has participated in numerous honor bands and orchestras throughout Ohio.  Julia is also a member of the Northview golf and track team.  She is an excellent student and is a member of the National Honor Society.  Julia is the daughter of Chuck Hage and Elisa Huss-Hage.
Senior Brittany von Stein is Musician of the Week. Brittany serves as section leader and President of Acapella Choir. She sings Soprano 1 in Harmony Road Show and has been in every choir offered at NV.  Brittany sang tenor in Post-It Notes quartet and attended Harmony Camp for the past two years. Brittany plays piccolo in Northview Marching Band and is flute section leader. She is very active in cheerleading and theatre, most noted for her role as Sour Kangaroo in NV’s Seussical the Musical. Brittany participated in OMEA Solo and ensemble receiving Superior ratings both years. She studies voice privately with Teresa Blowers and plans on double majoring in Vocal Performance and Music Education. Brittany is the daughter of Tom and Nancy von Stein.

Senior violinist Nicole Hobbs is the Northview musician of the week.  Nicole is not only a violinist in the Chamber Orchestra, but she also plays bass in our Concert Orchestra.  Nicole is a great leader, and serves as president of our Concert Orchestra.  She is also a member of the Toledo Youth Orchestra, has been a member of the OMEA District Orchestra, and sings in our NV A Cappella Choir.  In addition to her musical activities, Nicole is also a member of our Lady Cat soccer team. After graduation, Nicole plans to study music education and play soccer in college.  A private student of Diana Anderson, Nicole is the daughter of Patricia and Charles Hobbs.


Senior cellist Serena Chang is the musician of the week.  Serena is a member of the NV Chamber Orchestra, the TIYO, and the OMEA NW Region Orchestra.  In addition to her musical activities, Serena is a member of the National Honor Society, student government, and Science Olympiad. Serena is also a dancer at Daryl Jervis Dance Company.  After graduation, Serena plans to pursue a pre-med path in college.  A private student of Yan Kun Song, Serena is the daughter of Huang-kun and Angie Chang.

Sarah Hanline is the Northview High School Musician of the Week. Sarah recently received the most valuable player award for the 2010 edition of the Wildcat Marching Band.   Sarah is also the principal trumpet of the Northview Wind Ensemble and plays in the Jazz Band.  She has participated in OMEA Solo & Ensemble contest every year since eighth grade.  Sarah is an excellent student and is the treasurer of the National Honor Society.   Sarah plans on attending Miami University and major in marketing.  Sarah is the daughter of Ty and Beth Hanline.

Senior Kyle Kolebuck is Northview's Musician of the Week. Kyle sings bass in A Cappella Choir, The Harmony Road Show, and sings lead and bass in the Northview quartets, Baby Blue, and Three Tenors and a bass.  Kyle has served as the A Cappella Choir secretary for the last two years. While at Northview, Kyle has also sung with both the Symphonic Choir and the Symphonic Chamber Choir. Next year Kyle plans to attend Bowling Green State University and plans to major in Music Education or Music Theory.  Kyle is the son of Stan and Cheryl Kolebuck.

Senior Nicholas Smith is the Northview High School Musician of the Week. Nicholas was co-recipient of the 8 to 5 award, given to the outstanding leader for the 2010 edition of the Wildcat Marching Band.  Nicholas plays the French horn and piano and has studied privately for a number of years.  Nicholas has performed with the Ohio Music Education Association All-District Honor Band.  He has been a member of the Toledo Youth Orchestra and the Toledo Junior Youth Orchestra.  Nicholas is a member of the Northview Marching Band, Northview Wind Ensemble, Northview Symphony Orchestra, Northview Jazz Band and has been a member of the pit orchestra for the musical for three years.  Nicholas’s positive attitude and leadership ability has definitely been an asset to our music programs at Northview.  Nicholas is an excellent student as attested to by his membership in the National Honor Society Nicholas plans on attending the University of Minnesota and majoring in chemical engineering.  Nicholas is the son of Tim and Christine Smith.

Senior violinist Brynn Runion is the Northview musician of the week. Brynn is a violinist in the Northview Chamber Orchestra. She is also a member of the Toledo Youth Orchestra. In addition to her musical activities, Brynn is active in our drama department, and has extensive experience working behind the scenes on our Northview dramatic and musical productions. After graduation, Brynn plans to study medical technology with a minor in Latin at Kent State University. A private student of Penny Thomson-Kruse, Brynn is the daughter of Greg and
Lisa Runion.

Senior Ted Garey is the Northview High School Musician of the Week. Ted was co-recipient of the 8 to 5 award, which is given to the outstanding leader for the 2010 edition of the Wildcat Marching Band.  Having studied privately for a number of years, Ted plays the French horn, the piano, and sings tenor. Ted has performed with the All-Ohio State Fair Band for the past three years.  He has also been a member of the Ohio Music Education Association All-District Honor Band for three years.  Ted is a member of the Northview Marching Band, Northview Wind Ensemble, Northview Symphony Orchestra, Northview Jazz Band, and has been a member of the pit orchestra for the musical for three years.  Ted sings Tenor I in the Northview A Cappella Choir and Tenor II in the Harmony Road Show. Ted’s positive attitude and strong leadership ability has definitely been an asset to our music programs at Northview.  Ted is an excellent student as indicated by his membership in the National Honor Society.  Ted plans on attending Bowling Green State University to major in music education. Ted is the son of Tom Garey and Barb Horvath.

Senior Kayla Keisser is the Northview High School Musician of the Week. Kayla is a member of the A Cappella Choir, where she serves as soprano II section leader. Kayla has also been involved in the Northview Women's Chorus and Symphonic Choir, and has studied voice privately for seven years. Kayla is an active member of Northview’s Dance Team, Northview Theatre, the Art Club, and the National Honor Society. She is planning to attend Capital University. Kayla is the daughter of Melissa Keisser.

Claire Chirgott and Taylor Hertz are the Northview High School Co-Musicians of the Week.  Claire and Taylor are co-captains of the Flag Corps for the Wildcat Marching Band. They are both four year veterans of the squad and their leadership ability and twirling skills have definitely been an asset to the Northview Band Program.  Both girls also played flute in the concert bands for two years.  Claire also was involved with the Northview theater program and was been very involved in winter guard as a founding member of Pause Rewind and a member of Phoenix Independent Winterguard.  She also has spent the last two summers in participating in drum corps.  Claire will be attending the University of Cincinnati and majoring in architecture.   Taylor was a member of the Northview choir and has also been involved in winter guard for a number of years.  Taylor plans on attending Kent State University where she will major in nursing and minor in sign language. Claire is the daughter of Nick and Kay Chirgott and Taylor is the daughter of Chris and Tracy Hertz.

Senior Kramer Lindsley is the Northview High School Musician of the Week. Kramer is a member of the A Cappella Choir where he serves as tenor section leader, and vice president. He is also a second-year member of the Harmony Road Show, and is in the Northview AP Music Theory class. Kramer is also involved in Speech and Debate at Northview as well as Northview Theatre.Kramer's future plans include majoring in musical theatre at Kent State University. Kramer is the son of Dennis Lindsley and Cynthia Burghardt.

Senior violist Estar Cohen is the Northview musician of the week. Estar is principal violist in the Northview Chamber Orchestra and serves on the orchestra officer board. In addition to her participation in our orchestra program, Estar is also a fine singer. She can often be found singing in a local coffee house or club. After graduation, Estar plans to major in jazz studies in college. Estar is the daughter of  Donna and Alan Cohen.

Senior violinist David Aldrich is the Northview musician of the week.  David plays violin in the Chamber Orchestra, is a member of the Toledo Youth Orchestra, and has participated in pit orchestra for the past three years.  David is also on the staff of The Student Prints, participates in Quiz Bowl, and is a member of the National Honor Society. When he graduates, David will attend BGSU and major in film studies. A private student of Randy Workman, David is the son of  David and Kathy Aldrich.

Rianne VanDervoort is the Northview High School Musician of the Week.
Rianne is an excellent musician.  She plays the clarinet in the marching band and bass clarinet in the Wind Ensemble.  Rianne has performed in the pit orchestra for our annual musical all four years of high school.  She has auditioned and been selected to several honor bands including the Ohio Music Education Association District I Honor Band, the University of Toledo Honor Band and the Bowling Green State University Honor Band.  She has been a band librarian, a section leader, a squad leader, and is the band secretary this year.  Rianne’s cheerful disposition, positive attitude, and leadership ability has definitely been an asset to our music programs at Northview.  Rianne plans on attending Miami University to major in criminal psychology. Rianne is the daughter of Tim and Nadine VanDervoort.

Senior Jim Park is Northview's Musician of the week!  Jim is a member of the District Honor Choir, is a trumpet player in the Toledo Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, has received “1”s at District in Voice, Piano, and Trumpet. Jim is a member of Harmony Road Show and officer and section leader in A Cappella Choir and , Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band.  He performed on stage with Doc Severinson in 2010 with the Toledo Youth Orchestra. Jim has participated in 7 theatre productions, most recently as Lazar Wolf in Fiddler on the Roof.  He is also a member of “Basses Loaded”, a Northview quartet which has competed nationally. Jim currently studies with Dr. Stephen Hodge (UT) and Dr. David Kosmyna (Ohio Northern). He plans to major in music performance with a minor in business at Ohio Northern University, from which he has received a combined academic and music scholarship. Jim is the son of Jim and Jennifer Park.

Kevin Storer is the Northview High School Musician of the Week.  Kevin is principal trombonist in the Northview Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Wildcat Marching Band.  He has been a member of the Jazz Band and Jazz Cats and is currently the Vice-President of the Band.  Kevin did a magnificent job as trombonist in the pit orchestra for “Fiddler on the Roof”.  Kevin’s positive attitude and strong leadership ability has definitely been an asset to our music programs at Northview.  Kevin is an excellent student as indicated by his membership in the National Honor Society.  Kevin received his Ohio Cosmetology License in March, and is already working full-time in the beauty industry. Kevin is the son of Karen Wicker.

Senior Kaylie Martinez is Northview's musician of the week! Kaylie plays Clarinet in Northview's Wind Ensemble and is an officer and section leader in A Cappella Choir. Additionally, Kaylie has been involved with Women's Chorus, Noteworthy (women's barbershop quartet), and Symphonic Choir and is currently excelling Northview's AP Music Theory class. In addition to being an excellent musician, Kaylie is very involved in Northview Theatre and is also a Co-captain of the Northview Varsity Cheerleading squad. Kaylie plans to attend the University of Toledo next year. She is the Daughter of Kelly and Jay Martinez.

Senior Elliot Greive is the Northview musician of the week. Elliot plays cello in the Chamber Orchestra, and also serves as orchestra president.  A well rounded musician, Elliot is also a member of the A Cappella Chorale where he serves as an officer, and sings in Harmony Road Show.  He has played Lacrosse for Northview, and is an Eagle Scout.  After graduation, Elliot will attend Bowling Green State University to study psychology. He is a recipient of the Presidential Scholarship.  Elliot is the son of Nancy Lendrim and Roger Greive.

Viktor Barricklow is the Northview High School Musician of the Week.  Viktor plays tenor and soprano saxophone in the Northview Wind Ensemble, Wildcat Marching Band, and the Northview Jazz Band.  Viktor is an outstanding jazz soloist and is frequently featured with the Jazz Band.  He has received numerous superior ratings at OMEA Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Events.  This year Viktor is serving as President of the Band.  Viktor is also a member of the Northview A Cappella Choir and been heavily involved with the Northview Theatre Department.  Viktor’s positive attitude and strong leadership ability has definitely been an asset to our music programs at Northview.  Viktor is an excellent student as indicated by his membership in the National Honor Society.  Viktor plans on attending Miami University with a double major in biochemistry and economics as premed student. He is also considering a minor in theatre.
Viktor is the son of Rick and Kati Barricklow.

Paige Ankney is the Northview High School Musician of the Week.  Paige is an excellent musician.  She is principal oboe in the Northview Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. Paige also plays the alto saxophone in the Wildcat marching Band where she also serves as a squad leader. Paige recently was oboist in the pit orchestra for “Fiddler on the Roof”. Paige has participated in OMEA Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Events for several years.  Paige’s positive attitude and leadership ability has definitely been an asset to our music programs at Northview.  Paige is an excellent student and has achieved honor roll status numerous times.  Paige hopes to attend either Albion or Defiance College and major in Forensic science or chemistry.
